1. Introduction
Communication as a scientific discipline is quite
young. In Spain, for example, it has only been four
decades since the first communication faculties were
opened. Therefore, we lack solid longitudinal studies
on its evolution, a situation exacerbated by the limitations
of official statistics. At present, therefore, the
construction of the history of this discipline has been
based on theoretical essays (Martínez-Nicolás, 2006,
2008).
